Jesus isn't a spare tyre
When we allow Jesus Christ into our lives, He doesn’t become a spare tyre that we get out when we really need Him, and only then when there is no other option. A puncture doesn’t define the reason for Jesus in our lives.
John 10.10 says;
....I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
That is not a spare tyre talking, that isn’t something we keep hidden away never to be seen or spoken about. Many spare tyres today are smaller, thinner and bright red to remind you that you have a problem and you have to slow because they aren't as strong as the original, until you can get it fixed. People look at you and all they see is the problem you have and the trouble you are going though.
In Jesus you have someone who is bigger and stronger than the original and He doesn’t draw the attention to the problem, He removes it completely. You don’t limp on through life with the help of Jesus, you are made whole, all signs of the problem are taken away you can continue with new energy and life.
Jesus wants to be more than a spare tyre in your life; He wants to be part of every aspect, both big and small. His first step was to die for us on the cross so that when we mess up, when we ride over that nail He can fix us, there and then. Some of us ride over more nails than others, He doesn't care, each one is a new problem to Him, which is fixable, anything which happened previously has been forgotten.
A spare tyre is a once and only chance as well, once you’ve used it that’s it, you need another spare tyre which costs you, not so with Jesus, He is there forever and costs nothing, He paid the price on the cross and gave you unlimited road side recover for free for the rest of your live, if you want it.
Jesus doesn’t guarantee a trouble free ride; He never said life was easy, that you wouldn’t have punctures, dents or on occasion run out of fuel. What He did say was that with Him you would get to your intended destination which is an eternity with Him. There wouldn’t be a record of how many times you had to call on Him to get you going again, no additional costs or small print, no reckoning up at the end to see if you used Him too much. John 3:16 simply says;
16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
No matter how many times you break down in life’s journey and have to call on Him for help, He will be there. Sometimes He’s already waiting as we splutter to a stop, because He knows us better that we know ourselves.
So this Easter remember Jesus died to pay the price we couldn’t afford and offers it to us free of charge, unlimited lifetime roadside recovery with a guarantee that if we stay with Him we will benefit from an eternity of peace with God. Make Him more than a spare tyre, allow Him to get behind the wheel He knows where He's going and where you need to be.
I pray you have a safe ride and that you reach your intended destination.
