THE BODY CHART2

The body of flesh is the expression of the soul in relation to the material world of time and sense, the animal being of the tri-part man. Whilst in the womb the body is of animal nature, on birth God supplies His spirit, and it becomes living soul. Genesis 2:7.

God formed the body from the dust of the earth in Eden, placing His word in every gene.

It's purpose. According to the scriptures the body should be:-

a temple of the Holy Spirit.   1 Corinthians 6:19
a living sacrifice for true service to God.   Romans 12:1
an instrument of righteousness.   Romans 6:13
a means to the glorifying of God   1 Corinthians 6:20
a vessel through which the soul communes with God.   Genesis 3:8

It's fall. Through sin the body becomes:-

a door of attack for Satan.  Gen.3:6 Romans 6:12,13.
A body of humiliation.   Phil. 3:21
A decaying earthly tabernacle.   2 Cor. 5:1-4 James 4; 14.
A personal source of trouble  Romans 7:5,18,24.

It's instincts. The body is constantly striving against the spirit of man, and uses the desire of the soul for itself
1 John 2:16 Romans 8:5-8

1. Self satisfaction.   Galatians 5:16
2. Self-procreation.  Genesis 3: 16.
3. Self preservation.  Genesis 3:10-13.
4. Self righteousness.   Proverbs 30: 12.

It's works. The practices of the flesh are apparent Galations 5: 19-21 It was and still is, that through it the soul sins, so it is only through the flesh that the soul can find redemption, "For all have sinned and are lacking of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 Gk.

It's redemption. Redemption is supplied freely by God's grace for "When we were still sinners, Christ died for our sakes," Romans 5:8-11. Thus leading us back to God. Romans 6:12-14. Gk.

Paul gives advice in his writings on how to be useful for God in dealing with mans greatest enemy - his own body. "but I am belabouring my body and leading it into slavery, lest somehow, when proclaiming to others, I may be becoming disqualified myself." 1 Corinthians 9:27.

The Greek word for BELABOURING literally means UNDER-VIEWIZE meaning 'blackening by blows that part of the face which is under the eye, buffet, subdue, disable'. To control through our spirit the desires of the body which Satan brings before our eyes. "and when the woman SAW that the tree was good for food..she took..." Genesis 3: 6 This is achieved by strengthening the spirit, intellect, in meditating on God's word.

The body is sensual, of the senses, as distinct from the mind: not intellectual or spiritual: carnal, worldly, seeking gratification. Paul says, " for I am aware that good is not making its home IN me (that is IN MY FLESH), for to be willing is lying beside me, yet to be effecting the ideal is not.A wretched man am I ! What will rescue me OUT OF this body of death? GRACE!! Now I am thanking God through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 7. Gk.

The body is condemned to die, Romans 6:23. Gk and Hebrews 9: 27 Gk.

" For the ration of sin is death, but Gods gracious gift is eternal life IN Christ Jesus our Lord".
"And, in as much as it is reserved to men to be dying once, yet AFTER THIS a judging."

There is no need in these days of God's grace for the soul to die, that is, to be cut off from the Creator, after the death of the body, for redemption has been provided.
