Trumpet 3 / Vial 3

Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Revelation 16:4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

Many people think this star to be a literal star, as in the pervious trumpet which describes a great mountain. However this star is translated from the same star which describes a celestial being (Job 1:6 38:7 Rev 1:20 6:13 18:12 12:4). The angel has a name, WORMWOOD which the Greeks designated it, absinthion, meaning "undrinkable." It is a type of bitterness, affliction, remorse, punitive suffering. In Amos 6:12 this Hebrew word is rendered "hemlock" (R.V., "wormwood").

Like all angels their names mean something and as we see from this angel, his name is what he is responible for. He makes the rivers and fountains bitter, contaminated, or undrinkable. So much so that people die who drink the water.

There are two main points to look at with this judgement, the first is the extent of the contamination. Not only are a third part of the rivers covered in the trumpet but the fountains of waters, the source of all the rivers. There is an initial contamination or judgement immediately seen on a third of all rivers and then any hope of this clearing is gone by the source of the rivers being contaminated too.

The second point is the location of the contamination, which is directed on the people who killed and fought against 'Saints and prophets'. All those who made tormented and sought to kill those who held the testimony of Jesus now come under this judgement. This could be global as we know at this time there are no people left who will be saved in the conventional means as we are today. However we can not assume it covers Israel or more exactly Jerusalem.

If the Jews are waiting for Jesus hopefully they will know what is coming as they will have looked at the scriptures concerning the end times and prophecies. Anyone alive during this period could prepare for this event, storing up water or any other form of drink, unless they didn't take the mark and then they wouldn't be able to buy anything.
